We're well into 2009 now and some select-level players have
just about a month left of their season, while town hockey is still going until
April. High school teams all over the state are all about halfway into their season,
some teams are disappointed, some are happy and everyone has a lot of work left
to do.
At Micro Ice we've started the year off flying and the
compliments we've received on players' improving and teams doing well with our
help are endless. Every week we receive more and more phone-calls and e-mails
from people who are realizing how beneficial it is to be in a smaller group.
A lot of time when you take your young player to a skill
session, there are players all ages and all levels on the ice. This makes it
hard for the instructor to make the session challenging for everybody and
keeping everyone moving. Here at Micro
Ice, you have the opportunity to control your own group. You can get 7-8 kids
together that are the same age, same level, same schedule, etc. and get top-end
instruction at an affordable price, with low player to coach ratio. We truly
believe that in today's days and age, with the economy being the way it is, we
have a product that is better for less.
Soon, the hockey season is over and people will look for
skill-sessions or other options to stay fresh all throughout the off-season.
Our advice is, make sure you pick the right place and do the right things to
get the most out of your on-ice time. There are a lot of hockey camps, spring teams
and leagues that you can participate in. We don't encourage spring/summer
leagues and do not believe these will make you a better hockey player. Focus on
improving your skills and if you want some fun and challenging games, look to 3
on 3 hockey as a great substitute for ‘regular hockey'.
We've introduced the concept of deliberate practice as the core of
the Micro Ice philosophy. We believe that unless you practice something
deliberately over a longer period of time, you will not be able to maximize
your potential. And unless you maximize your potential, you will never get as
far as you could have if you did so.
So this off-season, think about how to maximize the
development of your young player with getting the most out of your money. As
always, we at Micro Ice are available if you have any questions, concerns or if
you seek general advice about what's best for your child's development.
